My kids, especially my son catch fish almost every cast. These are just the bigger ones. They have gone 3 times. And my son has caught 18 fish. My daughter has caught 9.
The 3rd time my son caught a fish on his first cast and wanted to go home cause "he got his fish"
I want them to be excited to go, but understand that it isn't going to be like this.
Or maybe I just suck?

I definitely suck. I keep fishing though. Hiking and fishing is actually what it is for me.

This might be unsolicited, but a tidbit based on having a 9 year old son – does your son want to go home because there’s screens/video games? I’ve found dialing back on screen time (significantly) has encouraged my son to explore hobbies & explore. However, if not a lot of screens at home, maybe they’re not super into fishing at the moment? I’d consider exploring other interests & just hope they acquire the love of fishing. If he not into it at the moment, maybe he can bring a book, a favorite toy, binoculars, bike – whatever it is – while you fish…. Maybe he’ll catch on over time, but can enjoy nature regardless!
